Hulu is the first U.S. streaming-video service to hit Nintendo Switch, which has sold 2.6 million units in the United States in the first eight months of its release (through the end of October).
Starting later on Thursday, Hulu subscribers can use the Nintendo Switch to stream both live TV and VOD-only plans. To access Hulu on Switch, users must download Hulu directly from the Nintendo eShop.
Nintendo debuted the Switch — a hybrid console that can be connected to a TV or used as a mobile device — in March 2017. It has sold 7.63 million units worldwide through the end of September. The company has projected that it will ship 14 million units by the end of its fiscal year ending March 2018, putting it on pace to sell 16.7 million units in its first year of release.
The Hulu with Live TV plan, priced at $40 per month, provides more than 50 networks including in most markets including ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and the CW in many markets, along with access to Hulu’s VOD library (including access to original series such as “The Handmaid’s Tale”). In addition, it offers SVOD-only plans for $7.99 monthly plan with commercials and $11.99 monthly with no ads.
Also coming soon to the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch are: first-person shooter “Doom” (Nov. 10); “L.A. Noire,” a detective game that uses facial-animation technology (Nov. 14); “Rocket League,” a hybrid soccer-driving game that lets players battle opponents on other platforms (Nov. 14); “Batman – The Telltale Series” (Nov. 14); and “Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2” (Nov. 14).
